Government Camp or "Govy" as locals call it is known as Oregon's Alpine Village. There's no reason to rush back home after you've spent a day on Mt. Hood. Nestled right at the foot of the mountain, it's the perfect place to rest, refuel and recharge.
Affectionately known as "The Rat" by regulars, The Ratskeller was voted "Best Après Ski Bar" in the state by The Oregonian. That's for good reason, as many consider them to have the best pizza not just on the mountain but anywhere. Add in a tongreat beers on tap and a fun atmosphere, and you may just be adding yourself to the list regulars who frequent this popular stop.
Mt. Hood Brewing Company is such a mainstay that they've actually expanded to two other locations. However their Government Camp spot is the original, and in our very biased opinion, the best. Their talented brewing team has created a lineup that continually impresses even the pickiest of beer lovers, while their menu is filled delicious dishes perfect to fill you up after a busy day on the mountain.
Charlie's Mountain View is a Government Camp legend. After all, any business that's been open since 1977 has to be doing something right. Big delicious burgers, steaks and even prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays help you recharge after your busy day. Better yet, stop in during the morning to fill up on a hearty breakfast.
Glacier Public House is another popular après ski spot in Govy. With a killer menu featuring burgers, wings and all the other delicious favorites you'd want to satisfy that hunger you've worked up, and 14 local beers on tap, you wouldn't be blamed for going here even without the ski trip. They also have plenty of gluten-free and vegan options, making it an ideal choice for the whole crew. There is also a heated patio for those who want to continue to enjoy the mountain air while they eat.
While many of the other entries on the list are all about après ski, High Mountain Café is the place to stop before you head the rest of the way up the mountain. They have an amazing breakfast menu that is certain to wake you right up so you can enjoy a day of outdoor adventures. They also offer lunches for the perfect midday recharge. In a hurry? High Mountain Café also has grab and go options to help you stick to the schedule.
The Huckleberry Inn is a gorgeous place to stay with a location that couldn't get any more convenient. They also have a great café inside that is perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Start your day with a delicious omelet, or wrap it up with an epic prime rib sandwich. Either way, your taste buds will thank you.
You may also want to stop at the Govy General Store before your trip. It's the perfect place to stock up on any necessary supplies, snacks and other goodies before heading up for a day on the mountain.
