This summer will be busy in Canby as a wide range of events will keep things exciting in this small town.
Much of the excitement will happen at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds & Event Center. The Oregon Renaissance Faire kicks things off June 4-5 and 11-12. The first weekend encourages all who attend to come dressed in their best cosplay — regardless of genre! Things get more magical on the second weekend with the "Mystical Wanderlust" theme as the air will be filled with wonder.
Music lovers will have a lot to look forward to in July as both Harefest and their sister event, Wild Hare Music Festival happen. Harefest is billed as the "Mother Of All Tribute Festivals" as 23 bands will rock multiple stages at the fairgrounds.
The music won't be quiet for long as the Wild Hare Music Festival is the following weekend on July 15-16. Nearly two-dozen music acts will take the stage from a wide array of genres that include country, rock, blues and more.
At the end of the month is the Oregon Bigfoot Festival. Some of the world's top bigfoot experts, including Cliff Barackman from Finding Bigfoot and owner of the North American Bigfoot Center in Boring will be on hand to help fans, enthusiasts and the just plain curious celebrate all things bigfoot.
Of course August holds the signature event here, the annual Clackamas County Fair. Happening this year August 16 - 20, the fair promises to be a fun time for the whole family. From rides and exhibitions to the annual rodeo, the fair is an annual tradition for many residents and visitors alike.
The fun isn't limited to the fairgrounds either; the action is happening all throughout town.
Canby's annual Independence Day event is a full-day celebration featuring a street fair filled with food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts exhibits and live music and kid's activities. There is also a parade down main street, bringing back those memories of a simpler time. The celebration starts at 7am with a pancake breakfast and ends after a fireworks show at sundown.
Art enthusiasts should check out the busy calendar at Art-O-Maddic, as they have a full slate of classes planned. They have eight classes currently scheduled between June 4 and July 10 with more in the works following. Topics include watercolor, tie dye, mandala painting and a kids' class as well.
Classic car enthusiasts should be sure to have June 25 marked on their calendar for the Hot Rod Dreamworks car show. Gates open at 9am behind Dick's Canby Ford where you'll see everything from vintage trucks to classic hotrods and traditional American muscle cars. Best of all, all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.
The Canby Arts Association is holding their inaugural "Through The Looking Glass Arts Festival" on July 23. The free event happens at Wait Park and was created to provide artists, authors and other creators a platform to share their work and inspirations.
Of course no mention of Canby events is complete without bringing up the Swan Island Dahlia Festival. This signature event opens up acres upon acres of fields at Swan Island Dahlias, the largest grower of these amazing flowers in the US. Walk through nearly 40 acres filled with more than 370 dahlia varieties. From small, delicate yet beautiful blooms to massive flowers larger than your head, the display is nothing short of spectacular. The fields are open August - September each year, with the festival taking place the last weekend in August and first weekend in September each year.
