Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, especially when you've got a packed schedule of outdoor activities like skiing, snowboarding, hiking or biking ahead of you. Luckily, Government Camp is filled with a lineup of mouthwatering, family friendly breakfast places and coffee shops to fuel your Mt. Hood adventure.
The Huckleberry Inn is a hotel and diner that is something of an institution on Mt. Hood. Located right along the main strip in Government Camp, the family owned restaurant has been serving up down-home cooking for generations. Shake off the cold with a warm stack of huckleberry pancakes or a selection of pillowy, homemade baked goods like maple bars, pies and Persian rolls. Sit at a table or booth, or post up at the bar and watch the magic happen in the kitchen. You’ll also find standard breakfast items on the menu, including omelets, biscuits and gravy and a variety of breakfast meats and eggs, as well as lunch and dinner items.
Open 6am–9:30pm daily
Situated in an unassuming spot on the second floor of The Ratskellar building, High Mountain Café is a local coffee shop dishing out comfort food that will keep you coming back for more. Perk up with gourmet coffee and espresso and dig into fresh-baked pastries like giant cinnamon rolls, croissants, Danishes, muffins and more. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, you can choose from savory items including breakfast burritos (sausage or vegetarian) and bagel breakfast sandwiches. (Be sure to try the ham and cheese croissant if you're lucky enough to find it on the menu that day.) Easily pay at the counter and take your breakfast to go, or dine in and enjoy the rustic, warm ambiance.
The historic Timberline Lodge is home to a number of fantastic restaurants and casual après-ski eateries. The Cascade Dining Room offers a lavish breakfast buffet, featuring everything from fluffy pancakes and crispy bacon to fresh fruit and pastries. But the real star of the show? The lodge’s signature Snow Cap Dream Hot Cocoa. This concoction lives up to its name with a dreamy combination of hot chocolate, whipped cream, toffee bits and chocolate and caramel drizzle. You can savor this indulgent treat while taking in unbeatable views in the Cascades Dining Room or the Ram’s Head Bar & Restaurant, which doesn’t serve breakfast but is an excellent spot for après-ski beverages and grub.
Cascades Dining Room breakfast buffet is served 8am–11am daily | Ram’s Head Bar & Restaurant is open 11am–11pm daily
While not technically in Government Camp, a quick detour to the nearby Villages of Mt. Hood is well worth it, especially for a visit to Mt. Hood Baking Co, where master baker Susie Blue crafts delectable breakfast and brunch items to-go. Think of items like egg and cheddar breakfast sandwiches and fresh, seasonal baked goods such as fruity tarts, flaky croissants and so much more. Pro tip: Make sure to get there early, as they tend to sell out fast!
Open Friday–Sunday from 8am–2pm
