This two-day itinerary takes you from cutting-edge racing simulators to outdoor go-kart tracks. Whether you're a motorsports enthusiast, an arcade racing fanatic or just someone looking for an unforgettable trip filled with speed, this racing tour through Mt. Hood Territory delivers.

Kartcade in West Linn

Start your racing adventure at Kartcade, a premier racing simulator lounge in West Linn. This isn't your typical arcade experience — Kartcade opened in 2025 as Oregon's first racing simulation lounge, bringing professional-level racing technology to the public.

The facility features nine driving simulators which are all linked allowing for head to head racing in over 20 games. The simulators provide incredibly realistic feedback, letting you feel every turn, bump and acceleration as if you're actually behind the wheel. As a bonus there is also a flight simulator where you can fly around the Earth in 250+ planes, Star Wars Squadrons for space combat, Ace Combat 7 for arcade dogfighting and Digital Combat Simulator to reenact real war plane scenarios.

What makes Kartcade special is the range of experiences available. Whether you're looking to master famous racing circuits from around the world, test yourself in rally racing conditions or even take to the skies with their flight simulator, there's something to challenge every skill level. Their helpful and knowledgeable staff will help find the right set-up for you. You can book online to secure your spot or walk-ins are welcome.

Pat's Acres in Canby

After your virtual racing warm-up, it's time to feel real G-forces at Pat's Acres Racing Complex in Canby. This legendary facility has been the heart of Oregon karting since 1965, making it one of the most established kart racing venues in the entire region. Oh, and did we mention the karts reach speeds up to 50 mph?

Just south of Portland, Pat's Acres is anything but your average go-kart track. This is a real racing environment where serious competitors train alongside families seeking thrills. The facility features a 6/10-mile outdoor karting circuit that challenges drivers with technical turns, elevation changes and straightaways where you can really open up the throttle.

What sets Pat's Acres apart is its authenticity. This isn't an amusement park experience — it's a genuine motorsports facility that hosts the Oregon State Karting Championship Series and attracts competitive racers from across the Northwest. But don't let that intimidate you. And no, you don't need to bring your own kart. The venue welcomes drivers of all skill levels, from first-timers who've never worn a racing helmet to experienced drivers looking to shave seconds off their lap times. You can rent a kart there, compete against friends and other racers and have a blast trying a new activity!

Evening: Settle In Along the I-205 Corridor

After a full day of racing, you'll want a comfortable place to rest up before tomorrow's Mt. Hood adventure. The I-205 corridor just south of Portland offers several excellent hotel options that provide convenient access to dining and evening activities.

The Best Western Rivershore Hotel in nearby Oregon City provides a scenic option along the Willamette River with easy access to I-205. The location puts you perfectly positioned for both your racing adventures and provides a peaceful riverside setting to unwind after all that adrenaline.

For dinner, explore the local dining scene in Oregon City or West Linn, where you'll find everything from casual eateries to more refined dining experiences. Share racing stories from the day and strategize for tomorrow's fun.

Mt. Hood Skibowl Action Park

On your second day, head east on Highway 26 toward Mt. Hood. The scenic 1.5-hour drive from the Portland metro area takes you through increasingly dramatic landscapes until you arrive at Government Camp, where Mt. Hood Skibowl transforms into an action-packed adventure park each summer.

Mt. Hood Skibowl may be best known as a winter ski resort, but when the snow melts and wildflowers begin to bloom, this ski resort comes alive with an entirely different kind of thrill. The Mt. Hood Adventure Park typically opens in June, bringing out all the summer toys including go-karts, alpine slides and zip lines.

The go-karts here offer a completely different experience from yesterday's racing adventures. Set against the backdrop of Oregon's iconic mountain, these karts let you experience speed while surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.

But don't stop at the go-karts. Since you're here, take advantage of the other activities that make Mt. Hood Skibowl's summer offerings so special. The alpine slide is a beloved classic where you can control your own speed as you wind down the mountain through the forest. The zip lines provide a completely different kind of rush, while the scenic chairlift rides offer a more peaceful way to take in the stunning mountain views.

Purchase tickets for individual activities or bundle rides together for better value. The resort offers single-ride, two-ride, and five-ride packages letting you customize your day based on how much time you want to spend and which activities call to you.

Explore Government Camp

After working up an appetite with all that mountain adventure, explore the charming village of Government Camp. This small mountain community offers several dining options where you can refuel. The area is surrounded by hiking trails, waterfalls and viewpoints that showcase the majestic landscape of Mt. Hood.

If you still have energy, consider a guided hike with Mt. Hood Outfitters to take in more of the incredible scenery. The area around Government Camp features trails for all ability levels, from easy interpretive walks to more challenging mountain routes.

Evening: Relax at Collins Lake Resort

Located in Government Camp, Collins Lake Resort provides the perfect blend of rustic charm with excellent resort amenities. Collins Lake Resort has many options when it comes to vacation rentals and lodging. Offering rooms in their grand lodge, vacation homes and private chalets. Choose mountain, creek or forest views with tall windows with beautiful vistas. Let all your stress from racing melt off in their sauna, pool or 25 person hot tub. This is the perfect location to end your fast paced Mt. Hood adventure.

Best Time To Visit

This racing itinerary works best from early summer through early fall. Kartcade in West Linn is open year-round and Pat's Acres Racing Complex in Canby typically operates from spring through fall (check their schedule for specific operating days and times). Mt. Hood Skibowl Adventure Park opens in June and operates through the summer season, though opening dates can vary based on winter weather conditions.

What To Bring

For your racing adventures, wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes — most facilities require proper footwear for safety. At Mt. Hood Skibowl, layer your clothing as mountain weather can change throughout the day, even in summer. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses for the outdoor tracks and bring your camera to capture all the action!
