Canby is always filled with fun events in the summer. Experience many of them during Canby's Big Weekend, a fun filled four-day stretch the last weekend in August, 26–29. We've rounded up all of them for a convenient guide to all the fun!
The Swan Island Dahlia Festival is one of Mt. Hood Territory's top summer events! Starting at the beginning of August and running through September, the annual celebration at the nation's largest dahlia grower is filled with classes, music, food and other fun surrounded by beautiful blooms of unimaginable variety.
If someone threw a block party and invited the entire city, that's essentially what Canby's Big Night Out is. There are children's activities, live music, dancing, a climbing wall and an arcade truck. And that's maybe half of what the evening holds! The fun is centered around NW 2nd Ave and N Grant St from 6–11pm.
Canby is the original location for the popular Wild Hare Saloon. Their summer concert series continues with Earth Wine & Fire tribute band Kalimba. Tickets are only $20. Gates open at 6pm, and the show starts at 7pm for this 21+ show held in the outdoor beer garden. It's sure to be a Boogie Wonderland!
It's hard to imagine a more scenic running route than the one that includes acres upon acres of dazzling dahlia blooms. The half marathon route also includes scenic parks and country roads. And while the 10K walk/run may not include the dahlias path, there are plenty of wheat fields and farm houses to remind you that you're in the country! All Canby Dahlia Run entrants receive a medal and a cut dahlia to commemorate their participation.
The weekly Canby Farmers Market pulls out all the stops for Canby's Big Weekend, including extended hours from 9am–2pm. Located downtown on NW 2nd Ave and N Holly St, the market brings together area growers, makers and crafters where you can find some truly wonderful local treasures.
Car lovers, be sure to be downtown Saturday morning for Cutsforth's Cruise In! Hot rods, muscle cars, roadsters and vintage trucks will all be on display from 9am–2pm. These are some true automotive works of art.
Head over to The Flower Farmer to see beautiful works of art from local creators at their annual Basil + Art Festival. Find something new to add to your collection, or just check out the local talent. And, of course, there will be basil dishes and treats! The Flower Farmer is also known for its Phoenix Holly Railroad, which will be running throughout the event (with the exception of Aug 29). Full dates are Aug 27–29 and Sept 3–5 from 10am–6pm.
The music continue at the Wild Hare Saloon on Saturday when Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers tribute band Petty Fever takes the stage. Gates open at 6pm, and the show starts at 7pm for this 21+ show held in the outdoor beer garden. Tickets are only $20. It's gonna feel like Runnin' Down a Dream!
While the Basil + Art Festival continues at the Flower Farmer and the Swan Island Dahlia Festival also continues in full swing, Swan Island Dahlias Sunday Market adds to the festivities. Running from 9am–4pm, the market adds yet another fun element to the already fantastic festival. And if you need more time, the Swan Island Dahlia Festival continues Monday, Aug 29!
