Eat: Canby

Some say food is the language of love. Maybe they don't, but they should. With that being said, there's a lot to love in Canby. The next time you're in town, stop by at a few of these places to get your fill of some delicious foods.

Wayward Sandwiches

There's an undisputed, scientifically proven truth that a sandwich is always better when made by someone else. The only way to improve upon that is to go to Wayward Sandwiches. Sourced locally and crafted with the utmost attention to detail, their sandwiches are as much art as they are cuisine. They also have delicious salads and other options, not to mention a large selection of wines. Be sure to come on Thursdays if you're a trivia buff, so you can flex those obscure knowledge muscles.

Baker's Prairie Bakery

There's just something truly special about the smell of a local bakery. Right when you walk in you're greeted by one of the most welcoming, not to mention mouthwatering, aromas in the world. Baker's Prairie Bakery is practically heaven on earth with its cases filled with pastries both sweet and savory. Macaroons, bagels, cupcakes, scones, coffee cakes, cookies and pretty much anything else you can think of can be found here, and should be enjoyed from here as well. Pro tip: Ordering their coffee will give you the chance to try locally roasted Garage Coffee made in Molalla.

Ebner's Custom Meats

Going to Canby and not stopping by Ebner's Custom Meats would be a huge missed steak. Owner Mike Ebner has taken his family's generations-long experience in the industry and molded it into an incredibly popular meat shop and deli. Whether you're looking for something to grill yourself or if you want to find something smoked to perfection, you're guaranteed to find sausage, beef, turkey, lamb and other all natural meats that have been locally grown. Sourcing your next cookout main course from here will all but guarantee your friends will kneel at the feet of the new neighborhood grillmaster. Plus, their sandwiches stacked tall with the savory meats your now daydreaming about.

B's Bake Shoppe

If you're a fan of the baked goods, then you'll loaf it here. (See what we did there?) B's Bake Shoppe specializes in artisanal breads, pastries and confections. The owner and head baker has been honing her craft since she was a teenager, and you can taste the passion in each of her creations. The seasonal items will have you coming back multiple times throughout the year to find out what the passage of time has in store for your taste buds next.

Backstop Bar & Grill

Backstop Bar and Grill is "dedicated to making your visit a homerun with delicious food, great service and a family friendly atmosphere." (That's their pun, not ours.) The food here is fantastic, as the ingredients are sourced locally and changes seasonally guaranteeing fresh, delicious items. This isn't some generic sports bar; this is real, delicious food crafted with passion and know-how. Best of all, it's accompanied by 23 HD TV's broadcasting all the big games of the day.

TMK Creamery

If you're a cheese lover, then you're going to want to learn more about TMK Creamery. They do much more than make cheese; they're a destination with a delicious selection of various cheddars, plus gouda, queso fresco and cheddar curds. What's truly special is the single cow cheese, where all the milk from that block comes from just one cow. And you can meet all the cows at the farm. They're called "cowlebrities" and they are just the cutest, friendliest cowlebrities you will ever meet. Be sure to also ask about their cowcahol, a vodka made with the spent whey from their cheese and other special creations. Pro tip: Their food cart serves tacos, pizzas and other delights that incorporate their cheeses. But for some, it's the corndogs made from beef sourced from the cattle ranch they also own that are the true showstoppers.

Gwynn's Coffeehouse

Gwynn's Coffeehouse is the ideal place to start your day if you're one of those who needs a bit of a pick-me-up to get moving. The friendly service will put a smile on your face even before the first drop of warm, comforting, life-giving coffee hits your tongue. To make it even better, their selection of breakfast sandwiches will fill your belly and your soul, giving you all you need to start the day off right. Or if you need a midday refuel, come by for their sandwich and soup selections. They're the perfect way to warm your heart and body.

Wild Hare Saloon Canby

Delicious food and amazing live acts have made Wild Hare Saloon an immensely popular spot not just in Canby but in the region, resulting in a second location in Oregon City. The Canby location is the original, however, and it continues to be a favorite for locals and visitors. The prime rib special is incredible; you can smell it down the street on Fridays and Saturdays, all but carrying you to the door like a cartoon. The Jack Rabbit Burger is another must-try, as is their fish and chips special. Basically anything you get is going to be incredible.

FOB Taproom

FOB Taproom is kinda like where beer lovers go when they die if they've been good. It stands for "Friends of Beer" and it's well named indeed! Each day you'll find 10 craft beers and ciders on tap, plus wine. Many are local and regional favorites, with some crafty creations from other brewers around the country as well. Suffice it to say, the variety here is incredible. They don't offer food, but they do allow you to bring your own or have something delivered. Can't beat being able to have whatever you want with that cold one.

Langdon's Grill

Even if you've never been to Langdon Farms chances are you've seen the gorgeous golf course off of I-5 just south of Canby. What you're missing out on is lunch or dinner at Langdon's Grill. They combine fresh, local cuisine with a casual and friendly atmosphere with a season menu that keeps things interesting. Fridays are popular with their prime rib special, which pairs quite nicely with the live Jazz music they have each Friday evening.

Fir Point Farms

There's always so much happening at Fir Point Farms that some people forget that it's also a very popular spot for lunch. They specialize in delicious sandwiches like oven roasted turkey, honey ham or the turkey, avocado and bacon, among many others. Their menu also features wraps and salads and amazing freshly grilled panini's. Sure, those are sandwiches too, but they're so good they deserve their own category. Once you've eaten, don't forget to grab a dozen apple cider donuts to go.

Siren Song

Siren Song is the newest addition to the list of Canby hot spots, but it's quickly been making waves in town. On the food side they offer appetizers portioned to share. Options like the Siren Song Charred Wings, ground lamb kebab or the seared scallops are delicious, and pair quite well with their drink menu featuring excellently crafted cocktails. That menu also has a nice selection of beers and wines, making this an ideal spot for date night.
