Winter Wonderland On Mt. Hood

When the brilliant colors of fall have faded, icicles sparkle from the eaves and snow blankets the ground. A quiet hush falls across the landscape as the final moments of sunshine give way to the moon and stars. Night is the perfect time to explore a side of Mt. Hood that many visitors never see.

Snow tubing is an amazing activity that the whole family can enjoy, no matter their fitness level. Cosmic Tubing at Mt. Hood Skibowl is an out-of-this-world experience, combining more than 600,000 LED lights, a laser light show, black lights and rocking music. There is nothing else like it in the Northwest. With an easy ride up a conveyer belt, participants don’t even have to make the trek back to the top of the hill to slide again. Skiers and snowboarders also enjoy Mt. Hood Skibowl with 34 lit runs, making it the largest night skiing terrain in North America.

One of the best and easiest ways to enjoy the night winter wonderland is on foot. Mt. Hood Adventures offers moonlight snowshoe tours that can be arranged up to six miles in distance. The excursion allows participants to glean historical and wilderness knowledge about the Mt. Hood area. After the trek, pop into Timberline Lodge and get one of their world-famous hot cocoas.

For an incredible Mt. Hood experience, take an evening snowcat ride to the 8,500-foot elevation above Timberline Lodge. Experience breathtaking views of the entire Mt. Hood Territory including the Cascade Mountains, the Willamette Valley and into eastern Oregon. During the holidays, indulge in a sleigh ride through the historic Village of Government Camp, as Belgian horses guide you along highlighting the holiday lights and sounds of hooves mixed with jingle bells.

Additionally, there are plenty of options for the traveler who would rather enjoy the night and snow through a window. For winter lodging, Mt. Hood has an option for everyone. Curl up with a blanket in front of a cozy fireplace inside a vacation rental or cabin, sip a hot tea inside the historic Timberline Lodge, soak in the spa at Mt. Hood Oregon Resort or just relax in one of the other alpine hotels. There are great choices for families who want that home base for traveling with kids, couples who want a secluded experience or friends who want to relax with forest views.
