Kicking off Oregon wine month at Forest Edge Vineyard

As you may have heard, May is Oregon Wine Month. It's a wonderful time of year where we celebrate everything special about our wine industry...and that's a lot to celebrate!

We kicked off our fun at Forest Edge Vineyard outside of Oregon City. This scenic little hideaway has been a labor of love for owners Jan and Ron. They built the winery and vineyard literally from the ground up over the last 33 years, and are producing some truly sensational varietals. They offer must-have options like Pinot noir and Chardonnay. But you'll also find more rare selections like Leon Millot, a hybrid grape similar to a Marechal Foch, but a bit fruitier, according to Jan.

They also offer some sparkling wines, which is done all by hand there in the winery. Jan and Ron showed us the process, and it's both fascinating and inspiring that these two put in all this work by hand to make the magic happen.

That attention to detail carries through in every aspect of their farm. They are big believers and followers of Permaculture practices, which focuses on sustainability for natural systems. All elements of their business are built with sustainability in mind. The vines, the tasting room and their home are all built to work with the land and be energy efficient. Even the non-developed portions of their 45-acre farm contain mixed-aged and mixed-species forests, managed under the guidelines set forth by the Forest Stewardship Council. With this much care placed at all aspects of the process, you know the wines are going to be amazing.

Forest Edge Vineyard is part of the Mt. Hood Territory Wine Trail. You can tour the trail yourself by downloading the mobile passport to your phone at Once on your phone, you can access wonderful discounts at each winery. Forest Edge, for example, is offering 5% off all purchases. Redeem a discount at 8 wineries, and you will earn a free Mt. Hood Territory stainless steel wine tumbler.

To recap, you get a free mobile passport that allows you to save money at well more than a dozen wineries with some great selections, and while you save money, you earn a free wine glass. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. And we've got the perfect place to start your wine tasting journey: Forest Edge Vineyard. See you along the Wine Trail!
