Feckin Brewery and Smokehouse mixes Irish traditions with PNW flair

Mark Maher from Feckin Brewing and Smokehouse in Oregon City talking about axe throwing

With so many incredible craft brewers in Mt. Hood Territory, you'd think the engine of creativity would somehow be running out of steam. Well, it's a good thing I'm not the one behind our breweries, because they all prove that they have enough ideas to keep this innovation going long past the foreseeable future.

That's especially evident at Feckin Brewing and Smokehouse, where they find interesting ways to make themselves standout at pretty much every opportunity.

First off, they're an Irish-style brewery, but add a Pacific Northwest flair to their beers. A great example would be their Top 'O The Feckin Morning. It's described as a big, robust Porter that includes Happy Rock cold brew coffee and other local ingredients to create a beer that's the best of Ireland and the new world.

Something that pairs remarkably well with their ales is their delicious food all smoked on site. They use only mild cherry wood which gives the food a wonderful flavor. Be sure to try the smoked turkey drumstick, which is brined over night before taking on even more awesome flavors while it's cooked low and slow in their smokehouse. If you download the free Mt. Hood Territory Tap Trail mobile passport, you can get a special discount on the winning combo of a pint and their local's favorite smoked turkey leg.

To really add the fun, stick around for the axe throwing. Yup, axe throwing. They've got an indoor set up that has become the talk of the town and is the only permanent one in the area. Leagues have formed around this burgeoning sport, and people are having a blast. It really is a lot of fun, and while difficult to master, it's much easier than you might think to do. One or two throws, and you'll be hooked.

So the next time you're in the mood to try some local craft beer, head down to Feckin Brewing and Smokehouse along 99 E in Oregon City. You'll have a Feckin' good time.
