3 Places to Find Fall Foliage Near Mt. Hood

Fall foliage at Mt. Hood from Lolo Pass Oregons Mount Hood Territory

Fall has certainly arrived here in Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory and with that the explosion of color that is fall foliage. Various trees are starting to take on radiant reds and dazzling yellows, among other colors, and this little guide will help you find those spots to take in all the beauty.

Highway 26

The easiest spot is cruising up Highway 26 towards Mt. Hood. The vine maple has already taken on some amazing colors, and the big leaf maples are starting to turn as well. Look for pops of color amidst the evergreens, creating some wonderful contrast. Bonus: head out a ways on Lolo Pass Road to find epic scenes of vivid vine maples in the foreground with Mt. Hood behind. Keep in mind the the road can get snow if the season arrives early.

Clackamas River with fall color in Oregons Mount Hood Territory

Clackamas River

The Clackamas River is designated as a wild and scenic river, and as such boasts some pretty amazing views, especially during fall. Take Highway 224 east through Estacada, which follows the river. You'll find some colorful views along this scenic stretch of road that will make for plenty of fall photo ops. Bonus: grab your hiking boots and head out on the Clackamas River Trail to Pup Creek Falls

Molalla River Recreation Area

The Molalla River Recreation Corridor is a scenic region along the Willamette River's only tributary untamed by dams. Your options abound here, as you can drive along country roads, hike along mountain trails or single track and multi-use mountain bike trails. Bonus: if you're a horse lover, there's equestrian trails as well.
