Congresswoman Darlene Hooley Hosts Willamette River Forum on Revitalizing River Communities
Governor Kulongoski among speakers addressing community development effort
| WHAT: |
The Willamette River United: Revitalizing River Communities forum, hosted by Fifth District Congresswoman Darlene Hooley, is intended to encourage partnerships between river communities, businesses and elected officials with the ultimate goal of stimulating sustainable economic development through collaborative initiatives. The forum will be the starting point for future dialogue between communities along the Willamette River from Eugene to Portland.Speakers will focus on Portland’s river renaissance and the American Heritage Rivers Initiative (including Oregon’s very own American Heritage River, the Willamette) as well as other revitalization efforts. Information provided by the day’s speakers will empower communities along the Willamette River by increasing awareness of federal and state resources, successful revitalization models and grants available for development efforts. |

Governor Ted Kulongoski, Congresswoman Hooley, Duncan Wyse from the Oregon Business Council, and representatives from the National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Environmental Protection Agency, and Bureau of Land Management will provide a broad overview of resources available to assist local communities in development efforts.All Willamette River community representatives and other interested parties are invited to attend. |

From I-205 north or south, take Exit 9. Turn left onto McLoughlin Blvd./99E through downtown Oregon City and the railroad tunnel. Take the first left past the tunnel onto Tumwater Drive, the museum is on the right at 211 Tumwater Drive. |

The forum will be followed by a no-host lunch buffet at the Rivershore Hotel and river cruise on The Belle of the Falls paddleboat (www.belleofthefalls.com). The boat offers one-hour excursions on the Willamette River from May through September. The lunch and boat trip charge of $20 can be paid on site. |
