Smithsonian Curator and Author Susan Pennington to Lecture in Oregon City and at the Oregon State Fair

Vegetable gardens often get a bad rap when it comes to aesthetics.  The Smithsonian begs to differ.  The museum's current traveling exhibit, "Feast Your Eyes: The Unexpected Beauty of Vegetable Gardens," takes visitors on a journey through the history of the edible garden and its place in society.  The exhibit runsthrough Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Museum of the Oregon Territory in Oregon City.  Susan Pennington, exhibit curator and author of a book by the same name, will be in town for several lectures Aug. 31-Sept. 2 and will be available for interviews.

BACK-GROUND: “Feast Your Eyes: The Unexpected Beauty of Vegetable Gardens” was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Horticulture Services Division in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES).  SITES is the largest traveling exhibition service in the world. 

In 2001, the “American Garden Legacy: Exploring Garden Transformations 1900-2000” tripled attendance at the Museum of the Oregon Territory.
