Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory Provides Summer and Fall Feast for the Senses
Traveling Smithsonian Exhibit Anchors Wide Variety of Community Events

Smithsonian Exhibit
The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibitions Services (SITES) is bringing its most recent exhibit in the Garden Legacy Series, Feast Your Eyes: The Unexpected Beauty of Vegetable Gardens, to the Museum of the Oregon Territory Aug. 14–Oct. 10, 2004. The exhibit will feature the history of vegetable gardens through photos and writings, in addition to an antique seed-packet display and a victory garden radio spot from 1943.
Juried Quilt Show
The traveling showcase will be supported on-site with a quilt display featuring garden and vegetable-themed works from local and national artists.
Feast for the Senses
Feast for the Senses sanctioned events will bring agriculture, arts, music and cuisine to the community through events such as the Lake Oswego Festival for the Arts; regional farmers markets; and much more. Details: www.mthoodterritory.com.
Call For Entry/Art Auction
The local Arts Action Alliance has invited select local artists to submit garden art to be displayed in local businesses throughout the Smithsonian exhibit. On Friday, Oct. 8, the pieces will be auctioned off to raise money for local art programs.

“Feast Your Eyes: The Unexpected Beauty of Vegetable Gardens” was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Horticulture Services Division in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES).The Museum of the Oregon Territory is proud to bring a piece of the Smithsonian to Oregon and provide the greater-Portland area with an exhibit of national acclaim. SITES is the largest traveling exhibition service in the world. In 2001, the “American Garden Legacy: Exploring Garden Transformations 1900-2000” increased museum attendance to nearly triple its typical amount. |
