History was made in Oregon's Mt. Hood Territory as seen by this hardened pioneer (courtesy Museum of the Oregon Territory)

Interested in pioneer history? You can almost hear the creak of the wagon wheels coming over Mt. Hood along the Oregon Trail when you visit the historic Laurel Hill Chute and Barlow Road Tollgates on Mt. Hood. Visit Baker Cabin or one of many historic pioneer homes to get a glimpse of daily life in Oregon in the mid 1800s.

Fun for the kids is a ride on the historic Canby Ferry across the Willamette River or a ride along the Willamette between Lake Oswego and Portland on the Willamette Shore Trolley. And, don't miss a ride to the top of the only outdoor municipal elevator in the United States located in historic Oregon City.

You will find one of the Territory's historical sites at the 6,000 ft. level of Mt. Hood - the majestic Timberline Lodge built in the 1930s through the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Barlow Road Driving Tour CD
Explore the historic trails that the original pioneers traveled as they came across their last leg of the Oregon Trail. The Barlow Road Driving Tour on audio CD is a 73-minute narrated tour of the Barlow Road from Barlow Pass to Oregon City. The package contains a 32-page tour booklet along with the audio CD. Purchase a copy online or pick it up at one of the visitor centers or most local museums and attractions and follow the route the pioneers took.
