Welcome to the Mt. Hood region of Oregon’s
Mt. Hood Territory where mountain time lets you
slow down and experience the great outdoors. One
of three Activity Guides, this guide will lead
you to suggested trail heads, visitor sites and
year-round recreation options for visitors of all
ages and skill levels.
In addition to this guide there are two other
Activity Guides – Portland
Metro Heritage & Culture and North
Willamette Valley Agritourism to help plan your
trips.
Also, for the long distance
traveler, the BEYOND
THE TERRITORY section will give
you ideas for extending your
stay and exploring attractions in the nearby
areas of
Northwest Oregon. The suggested highlights along the routes are
color coded by type of activity in sequential order.
Refer to the legend located on the map.
Mt. Hood is home to world-class recreational opportunities
and friendly communities along the road to and
from the highest point you can drive to on the
mountain, historic Timberline Lodge, located at
the 6,000-foot level of Oregon’s highest
peak (11,245’). Miles of easy-access hiking
and mountain biking trails for all skill levels
in summer and fall magically transform to easy-access
snowshoe and cross-country ski trails with the
winter snowfall. Select trails are ideal for bird
watching, wildflower spotting or horseback riding
as well. Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts find
the thrills they seek at Mt. Hood ski areas. Area
lakes and rivers provide access to fishing, boating,
kayaking and white-water rafting. There is plenty
for those who just want to enjoy the view as well
along our national Scenic
Byways. In addition to
recreation, Mt. Hood is home to numerous artists’ studios
and galleries.
